The pictures in this gallery feature just some of the Decks we've done that are Multi-Level. Mostly this means two-story (or more) Decks that are stacked on top of each other. But it can also mean Decks that simply have more than one level - where each level can be separated by as little as a single step. Either way, the design & engineering involved in these decks coming out right is definitely more complex than what's required for a single level Deck.
You may not be able to fully visualize it when presented with the drawing, but every single thing is planned out before we start building. We know where every post will go, exactly how every staircase will work out and interact with each other, and how all the details will look (like that railing under the edge of those middle stairs or how much headroom will be under everything). You can look at pictures of some peoples' work and just tell when they made it up as they went along.
This Deck is seriously more than meets the eye! There is actually a roof over the Lower Deck. And the upper Deck, while just a 4' walkway, is suspended from cables attached to the posts so that no load is resting on the roof. We can't take all the credit. The way all the loads are transfered to the ground was the idea of the Homeowner! I love the people we get to work with!
That, ladies & gentlemen, is not a dog house opening. It is an opening for the dog, but there is a narrow staircase under the Deck so the dog can go from the driveway to the back yard without having to go through the gate and get ON the Deck.
